Welcome to Engineering Open House 2009...

Engineering Open House is a two day event held at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign to showcase the latest in science and technology from the university's professors, students, and sponsoring corporations. EOH annually attracts over 20,000 visitors to learn, experiment, and play with science. EOH is a great educational experience for all ages and many schools use EOH as a fieldtrip to show their students how science is important in everything around them. Engineering Open House has over 200 exhibits ranging from Concrete Crushing (a process to test the strength of construction material in an shattering way...), Liquid Nitrogen Table (take everyday objects and place them in -350F liquid nitrogen and see what happens to them), and many more.

Air cannons for use in Agriculture and Forestry
by Dept. of Agricultural & Biological Engineering
Air cannons are used for various purposes in agriculture such as a "puncher-planter", and for general safety testing. The air cannon contains a unique piston mechanism that enables reproducible acceleration of a test object. The working of the air cannon will be explained along with a demonstration.
Traffic Control and Safety Devices
by Institute of Transportation Engineers
Incandescent bulbs and LED traffic lights will be on display for comparison, Device to measure perception reaction time, and also a five question testing on knowledge of traffic signs for pedestrians. We intend to have presents for those answering all the questions. We are still working on it. Details later.
